IN tandem with its corporate mission, Maslow Trainers and Consultants Sdn Bhd is continuing its support for The Star’s Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) programme with a generous sponsorship of RM60,000. The company contributed RM40,000 to the programme last year.

“Our company’s mission is to train and educate people, and the NiE programme is in line with our direction. We see the programme as a good match in terms of our company’s corporate social responsibility efforts,” said Maslow Trainers and Consultants Sdn Bhd managing director Dr Siraj Khan.

“I believe that the English language is essential for the development of the country as it is a universal language.

“In order for us to move forward, it is vital that the younger generation be able to communicate in this language,” he added, after handing over the mock cheque toThe Star’s group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.

Also present at the event were Maslow Trainers and Consultants associate director Datuk Sh. Yahya Sh. Mohamed and executive director M. Pramasivah as well as Star Publications (M) Bhd group enterprise (sponsorship) executive Fabian Martin.

Dr Siraj commended the NiE pullouts, saying its format is friendly and appealing to students.

“I think it’s headed in the right direction so we are very supportive of this initiative.”

Agreeing with Dr Siraj, Sh. Yahya said the sponsorship is a good complement to the company’s corporate identity.

“The pullout is able to attract interest from students and that is very important. With this contribution, we hope to encourage students to read the newspaper and gain more knowledge,” he said.

The vibrant NiE pullout offers an array of fun activities that cultivates enthusiasm for the English language.

Written by a team of experienced English language teachers and specialists, the 12-page syllabus-based pullout provides a powerful tool for educators.

It tackles themes set by the Education Ministry and caters to students of all proficiency levels: elementary, intermediate and advanced.

Founded in 1998, Maslow Trainers and Consultants Sdn Bhd is an advisory, consultancy and training organisation that focuses on developing businesses and people.

“We are currently undergoing an expansion programme. We have been supporting foreign-based multinational corporations and government bodies but starting this year, we are also trying to share our expertise and knowledge with small and medium enterprises (SMEs),” said Dr Siraj.

Pramasivah explained that one of the products that they have localised and adapted to suit the local SMEs was a Japanese communication concept calledHorenso, which revolves around trust, teamwork, communication and management skills.

“We are trying to introduce a good working culture to organisations. Like language, culture is something that has to be developed from a young age,” he said.

The company recently received two awards from two different bodies — the SME 100 Award 2013 and SME Recognition Award 2013.

The NiE school subscription package of 33 issues per year comes with a copy of the newspaper every Wednesday. Each subscription also comes with a choice of one of the following complimentary books: The New First Aid in English (worth RM24.90), Chambers School Grammar (worth RM20), Discover Grammar (worth RM19.90) or The First Aid in Spelling (worth RM24.90).
